1839 Courthouse Museum Offers Springing into the 1830s Pioneer School Program

BERRIEN SPRINGS. The 1839 Courthouse Museum of the Berrien County Historical Association will offer a Springing into the 1830s Pioneer Day school program on Thursday, May 13, for 4th and 5th grade students. The students will experience making a scarecrow, sampling sassafras tea, planting an old-fashioned garden, fireplace cooking, visiting the village blacksmith, and wind up the experience with old time music. The popular two-hour hands-on program will be offered at 9:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m. The activity fee is $3.00 per student. Space is limited so schools are asked to reserve their time by May 3 to ensure they have a spot. For more information and to reserve space, call the Berrien County Historical Association at (269) 471-1202.

The Berrien County Historical Association's 1839 Courthouse Complex is located at 313 N. Cass Street (old US 31), Berrien Springs, Michigan. It is the site of the historic county seat and comprises the 1839 Courthouse, 1870s Sheriff's Residence, 1830 Murdock Log House, Bennett Forge, and 1870 Jail Plaza.
