Berrien County Historical Association Annual Meeting

Noted Michigan historian and author Larry B. Massie will present his program "Sand Dunes, Sawdust and Shipwrecks: Stories from our Sunset Shore" at the Berrien County Historical Association's 2006 annual meeting.

The BCHA will host its meeting and program at Lake Michigan College's Mendel Center on Tuesday, April 25. The dinner and program are open to the general public.

The evening will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 7:00 p.m. and a brief business meeting. Dinner entrees offer a choice of beef burgundy, champagne chicken or eggplant parmesan.

Reservations at $23 per person can be made through April 18 by calling the Historical Association at (269) 471-1202.

Larry Massie will begin his program at 8:00 p.m. Famous throughout the state as Michigan's premier historian and storyteller, Massie makes history come alive. He takes his audiences on a pilgrimage into his beloved state's past with vignettes featuring steel-sinewed voyageurs, black-robed Jesuit priests, rough-hewn lumberjacks, salty Great Lakes ship captains and intrepid Underground Railroad conductors. Through costume and dialect, Massie transforms himself into real characters whose exploits helped make Michigan the great state it is.

A native-born Michigander, Larry Massie has devoted his life to researching, writing about and promoting the history of his state. He has authored seventeen popular books about Michigan history, written the text for historical walkways and museum displays, and presented hundreds of Michigan history storytelling sessions across both peninsulas.

This performance of "Sand Dunes, Sawdust and Shipwrecks" is being unwritten by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council's Arts and Touring Program.
